The High School gymnastics team has had a very successful year, with hopefully more success to come. In December 2012 /3 teams of 5 gymnasts were entered into a competition in Grantham, 2 teams in the under 13 age category and 1 team in the under 16 age category. In both age categories, we managed to beat off our main rivals which were Walton Girls High School, Grantham and Sir John Gleed School, Spalding becoming Lincolnshire champions. A special well done to Laura Van Lier who came second and Rosie Fresen who came first in the under 13 age category becoming the Lincolnshire under 13 champion and runner up.

Meanwhile in the under 16 age category, Hannah Lawrence came second. During February half term 2013, there was the East Midlands Sports Acrobatics and Tumbling championships in Derby. Five gymnasts were entered into this competition; they were Gemma Amos, Gemma Clark, Jennifer Platt, Rosie Fresen and Sian Matson. Rosie and Sian were first to go in the under 13 pairs group. They performed superbly and just missed out on a medal coming fourth. In the under 16 pairs group, Gemma and Jennifer performed excellently and came third. Unfortunately none of our pairs won gold so they were unable to represent the East Midlands at the National Finals. Going over to the tumbling side of the competition, Gemma, Gemma, Sian and Rosie competed. Rosie and Sian competed in the under 13's with Sian coming a respectable fourth and Rosie coming second defeating some tough competition from other schools. Gemma and Gemma were in the under 16's, but with Gemma Clark unable to compete, Gemma Amos was the only competitor in the age category, she came first with Gemma Clark coming second.

This meant that Gemma, Gemma and Rosie are going forward to represent the East midlands at the national finals in May 2013 in Stoke on Trent. The gymnastics season is soon to be over, we thank Mrs Moss for all the time and effort she has put into making the teams into the best she can. We have done her proud this year and hope we can continue to do the same next year. The competitions we are hopeful to do well in are the Lincolnshire Championships held in Grantham in December 2013, the East Midlands Regional’s held in Stamford in February 2014 and the East Midlands sports acrobatics and Tumbling Championships held in Derby.

We hope to get some gymnasts to the national finals in 2014 as that is a big achievement for the school. We can do this by having a team win the East Midlands Regional’s or winning the East Midlands sports acrobatics pairs element or coming first or second in the tumbling element. Lastly, I would like to thank all the gymnasts that have represented the High School and everyone for coming to practise every week. You have all done extremely well and you should all be proud of yourselves.
