The School Herb Garden | 22/11/2013 |
The School Herb Garden There is an abundance of fruit, veg and not surprisingly, herbs, in the herb garden. So many, in fact, that listing them all could quite possibly take up an entire page! Before half term, we visited the herb garden to chat to Mrs. Syer, the Food Tech teacher, about what is growing at the moment and produced a list of some of the things we grow in school. The herb garden is where the majority of the things grown in school are, but you can find a few elsewhere. Some of these include: Raspberries, blackberries, apples and plums, but the garden itself holds much more than that. Although it may look small, the herb garden can hold more than you would think. All the herbs grown there are: Thyme, basil, parsley, mint, chive and sage. Fruit and vegetables are grown as well. Some of the fruit in the garden is rhubarb, tomatoes and don’t forget the new fig sapling. Some vegetables include: Courgettes, celery and carrots. If you’re interested in gardening or cooking, you should definitely come down to the herb garden on Thursday at lunchtime to check out the fork to fork club! Lots of the school-grown items are used in Food Tech lessons. For example: the year sevens experimented with different herbs in their stuffed peppers and cheese & potato pie. Return |
