Oxbridge and Russell Group Universities
The University of Oxford and the University of Cambridge are the UK’s two highest ranking universities. Students are permitted to apply to one of the institutions, not both. Applications to Oxford or Cambridge involve a stringent interview process and assessment testing. We support our students who wish to apply for Oxford or Cambridge courses through a support group led by Mrs Bushell, workshops delivered by Admissions and Outreach Officers from our link Colleges (Lincoln College, Oxford, and Christ’s College, Cambridge) and mock interviews with Heads of Department and members of the Rotary Club of Spalding and Welland.
In Year 12 students are encouraged to apply for a range of outreach opportunities such as:
- Oxford and Cambridge residential opportunities such as summer schools
- Sutton Trust summer schools
- UNIQ spring and summer residential courses
- Cambridge University Students’ Union (CUSU) Shadowing Scheme
- Open days
- Taster lectures
The ‘Russell Group’ is a group of 24 UK universities which are renowned for the world-class research and education they offer. They are unique institutions, each with their own history and ethos, but they share some distinguishing characteristics. The Russell Group’s ‘Informed Choices’ website brings together guidance from admissions teams at Russell Group universities to give students information about the subjects they should consider if they are hoping to progress to a competitive university.
