Governing Body
The Board of Governors
All maintained state schools are required to have a governing body. At Spalding High School the Board of Governors comprises 13 voting and 5 non-voting members, one of whom is appointed by the Local Authority, some elected by parents or by the staff, and some co-opted from the local community; the Headteacher is also an ex officio member.
The purpose of the Board of Governors is to take responsibility for the strategic development and direction of the School and to be a “critical friend”; when necessary, the governors also appoint a new Head.
Whilst the Board of Governors are not responsible for the day to day running of the School, we are lucky at the High School to have a very committed governing body which takes an active role in the life of the School; the chairman meets with the Head once a week, and governors attend each parents’ evening to canvass the views of parents.
