Resources

We encourage students to use a wide range of resources in order to find what works best for them. The best way to get better at mathematics, is by doing lots of maths problems! All students in Years 7 to 11 are issued with their own copy of the relevant homework textbook and are encouraged to complete extra practice at any topics they feel less confident at.

Other resources include:

• MyMaths - the main homework platform used at SHS. Students have individual logins and can complete tasks set by their teacher as well as completing extra practice on any topic they like. There is an online lesson that goes alongside each task so students can go over a topic and see it explained in a different way, or catch up from absence. We encourage parents to ask their daughters to log in with them and show off their results in maths.

• Dr Frost - this website empowers students by enabling them to complete practice questions for free via the learning platform, watch videos and download resources including Powerpoint explanations of pretty much every topic from Year 7 to A level Further Maths!

• NRICH - run by the University of Cambridge, this excellent website is full of puzzles to develop your mathematical thinking and problem-solving skills.

• Underground Maths - Underground Mathematics provides free web-based resources that support the teaching and learning of post-16 mathematics. It was funded by a grant from the UK Department for Education and based at the University of Cambridge. It is also hosted by NRICH, also based at the University of Cambridge

• Mathsgenie – Mathsgenie is a superb resource for revision as it has video tutorials for each graded topic area, lots of exam practice questions and fully worked solutions.

• National Numeracy Challenge – An excellent link to information and resources to boost numeracy for pupils and adults – there are even ideas on how to make maths fun for the whole family!
