The School Canteen -'The Hub'
‘Healthy lifestyles are encouraged through the provision in school menus’ (OFSTED 2009)
The school canteen provides a wide range of nutritional and tempting meals, drinks and snacks. It is open to all students and staff before school, at break time and at lunchtime.
A typical 2-course meal would cost around £2.50. See a sample menu here
The main menu changes daily and caters for all tastes and most dietary needs. Also available at lunchtime are sandwiches/rolls, salad bar, pasta bar, jacket potatoes, homemade cakes, desserts and fresh fruit.
There are ‘themed days’ that offer the opportunity to try food from around the world. During sports day a BBQ is held and in the summer the canteen supplies fruit smoothies, fruit kebabs & pick ‘n’ mix fruit.
A breakfast club starts at 8.30a.m and serves hot breakfasts, cereals and toast to those early risers.
At break time the canteen opens to serve a delicious range of hot and cold snacks, including paninis, pizza, homemade cakes & biscuits and fresh fruit.
Cashless catering. The cashless system has allowed for students to pay for their meals in advance and not have to worry about carrying money to school everyday. Parents are able to contact the School and request to see exactly what is being consumed each week. Alternatively, transactions can be viewed via the online payment system.
The Catering Manager is always willing to listen to ideas and suggestions put forward by students. She sits on the ‘Healthy Eating & Canteen committee’ a sub-committee of the school council.
